title: never tell the one you want that you do
fandom: Game of Thrones
pairing: Jon/Robb
rating: R
summary: Robb has these dreams that he'll never speak of. They're about the things he wants to do to Jon — about the things he'll never do.
spoilers/notes: Written in response to a prompt at the [livejournal.com profile] stark_n_snow prompt meme. Obligatory incest warning. 316 words.

Robb has these dreams — he mostly has them when he’s awake — these dreams where he walks up to his bastard brother after they’ve fought a few bouts during sword practice in the yard and he throws his practice sword to the ground and grabs a fistful of Jon’s hair. In these dreams, he pulls his brother in close and says something, probably something obscene, and he presses their lips together and holds on tight. The world feels like it’s spinning then, spiralling, unsteady, and he sees himself from outside himself and can’t quite feel the way his dream self is pressed against his brother, as though anywhere they didn’t touch they’d freeze to death.

Robb has these dreams and these thoughts. Robb catches his brother’s eye sometimes and sees warmth and welcome and wonders what Jon would think if he knew about these thoughts, these dreams he has.

They stand close together as they put away their practice swords and Jon gives him a jovial slap on the back and says “Well fought, Stark.”

Robb meets his gaze, smiles, and says, “You too, Snow,” and tries not to think about pressing his brother against the wall. Something must show in his eyes because Jon’s smile changes a little — though it seems no less real.

When Jon leaves Winterfell to join the Night’s Watch, they share an embrace so tight that Robb can feel Jon’s bones. Robb thinks so this is what it feels like and thinks and this is the only chance I’ll ever have and holds on a little longer than he’d planned to but doesn’t say a word. He doesn’t say a word about the dreams and he doesn’t look back over his shoulder to see Jon’s eyes follow him as he walks away, as if he knew what Robb had left unsaid and wished he’d turn back and say it.

My friend ships them so badly just from this scene. He's only a TV watcher, doesn't know anything about the books or what happens. It's hard to keep my mouth shut sometimes.

SPOILER ALERT!

In advance: sorry for my english ;)

The things they are doing to me. Robb was always my favourite male character, and Richard Madden is a perfect cast choice (and hot as hell, he is ginger *____*). Because Jeyne is, well, bleh (she wouldn't survive the North, couldn't even understand their ways), I'm kinda shipping him with Asha Greyjoy or Dacey Mormont. And with Jon of course.

Robb/Jon is fascinating. They are half brothers, and one of them is the heir of the North, with his future kinda set in stone (it's a sad thinig, living without a right to choose your own way of life). They're living in a world where incest is a crime, love for another man probably too, and people of the North are really close-minded in this kind of things (even the wildlings think of incest as a crime against the gods!). Also, Jon is a bastard, a lucky one, but still a bastard.
Every time I read or watch the scene of their goodbye, I'm like: Fuck you, Martin (I actually told him I hate him for Robb during the book signing), there is no the next time, no soon enough for them, this is the last time they will see each other, and for the next five books Jon will think about the last memory of his brother alive, those fucking snowflakes melting in Robb's auburn hair (The Young Wolf, kissed by fire and still not lucky enough) - three times in DwD alone, yes, I'm counting. And the scene from the third book with Jon thinking about having a son for his own, named Robb. And Robb naming Jon his heir... And then I am crying ball of angst writing even more angsty things nobody will ever see (thank God).

So you know, people like me need people like you, writing for us happy things. Or, well, angsty things. Let's stop at writing things.

MORE SPOILERS HERE

Your English is really good - there's no need to apologise for it!

I don't have anything against Jeyne but it was (probably) the worst decision Robb could have made to marry/jump in bed with her. It would be interesting to see Robb with a feisty woman like Asha or Dacey though.

Jon/Robb is such an interesting ship - a tragically doomed one, but still! Incest doesn't seem to be as taboo in the Seven Kingdoms as it is for the Wildlings though. (Probably because of the Targaryens and because the major houses clearly inter-marry a lot and are, therefore, quite inbred.)
Their parting is really tragic but I think that, in a way, they probably both know how likely it is that they won't see each other again (or, if they do, that it'll be very fleeting). It is so heartbreaking whenever they think about each other though because it's so obvious how much they care, you know? I think that, growing up together, they must have defined themselves against each other all the time because they were the only boys of their own age they really knew and that bond is just unbreakably strong. I don't think they really know how to live without referring back to each other and they want to rebuild the link between them by having kids and naming them in the other's honour or, in Robb's case, giving Jon the one thing he has that he thinks that Jon might want and need.

And now I feel totally heartbroken, all over again. ): Why does this fandom do this to me?

Thank you for leaving such a lovely comment. I will try to write more happy things about these amazing boys and how much they need each other. ♥

You should (or better not) see my english two years ago, it was terrible.

Jeyne wasn't bad person, but she and Robb, it just wasn't working. No chemistry between them. I think he married her because he was his father's son - he had to. He made a mistake that night and had to live (then, well, not) with its consequences. I think she loved him, but couldn't understand she married a wolf. And he was trying to love her.

Yes, the Targaryens married their sisters/brothers. Marrying cousins - nothing strange. Cross-generational incest happened. But look at the Lannisters and all the fuss. And their family lived closer to the King's Landing. And the North was the biggest kingdom, still into old ways and old gods.

I love what Richard Madden said about them:
Him and Jon Snow have a fantastic relationship. They’ve grown up as brothers and they’ve dealt with everything together, especially in a world where men don’t share their emotions and don’t talk to each other and it’s just-that’s when you need Jon the most and that’s where he loses John. He loses his support.

Practice makes perfect, as they say. (:

I'm not sure Jeyne and Robb completely lacked chemistry - they're meant to screw like rabbits, after all! But the consequences of their marriage were dire. ):

We don't get much of an indication of how incest is viewed in the North, I don't think, but it's interesting that you think they would be less accepting of it. It's definitely very culturally distinct from the South.

Oh, Richard Madden, everything you say just makes me love you more. The whole "they've dealt with everything together" thing is so true and they are just so much a part of each other's lives. Oh Jon and Robb. Oh boys.
